Question:
I've already had an open RNY and also an appendectomy this year ...
now my PCP is saying I need a hernia repair. My question is, how long can I procrastinate that??? I am sick of being cut open and taking time off work for recovery. I've heard some people wait years ... tell me your story. — Terissa R. (posted on February 28, 2002)

I can't answer that question for you, but wanted to let you know I
understand how you feel. I had my open RNY 8/17/01, an appendectomy
12/17/01, AND my gallbladder removed 2/14/01. I am so tired of surgery
that I just am thankful I have nothing left to be removed (had a
hysterectomy 16 years ago). I do know, however, that if your hernia
"strangulates" you will be one hurting person and the surgery
will be far more difficult to recover from. Talk to your doc further and
if he advises you to get it taken care of sooner than later, get it over
with!
