Question:
Is tofu a better choice for protein instead of beef or chicken?

It may be a better choice as an early post-op simply because it is much
easier to digest than animal sources of protein. Many protein drinks and
protein bars are made from soy, so it stands to reason that it is a high
quality protein.

Tofu might be better for you right away. But I have spoken to
nutritionists, and have found that soy based protein boosts estrogen
levels. If this is not ideal for your situation for some reason, you might
want to consider this. For men, this may be undesirable. I was told to
use whey based protein to avoid this, and because it is better for muscle
building. Since your a female this may not matter to you, maybe you would
benefit from the soy. But I believe that lean meat is better than
anything, if you can tolerate it. Hope I helped.

Soy might be better for you immediately post-op since it's softer than most
meats and easier to digest, but as a rule, protein derived from animal
sources (meat, fish, eggs, milk, etc.) is better for you overall.

My mother, a breast-cancer survivor, has been advised by her physician to
stay away from soy-based products. BECAUSE they promote estrogen
production, and increased levels of estrogen are reportedly the cause of
the production/growth of cancer cells in some breast cancers, her Dr.
advised her to only have SMALL amounts (4 oz./week or less) of soy-based
products. I suggest you discuss it with your PCP.
