Question:
Referred by pcp to surgoen and then to cardiologist but insuracne refuses to pay?
cardiologist set up stress test and catherization. Insurance company won't reimburse the hospital for these tests ($37,000) because the cardiologist did not get preauthorization. What can I do. — [Anonymous] (posted on January 28, 2002)

I can't guarantee this, but sometimes the insurance company will pay if the
doctor's office submits the required paper work even after the procedure is
done. I had surgery a couple of years ago and the claim for the hospital
bill was rejected because they hadn't gotten authorization for in-patient
treatment, even though insurance had pre-authorized the surgery itself.
It's sure worth a phone call to the doctor's office and the insurance
company to see if that's possible.
