Question:
What is the difference between the Fobi Pouch and the Micro Pouch, is one better than
the other. How about long term post-op? — Rita B. (posted on January 20, 2002)

The micro pouch is an RNY with a smaller pouch. I have had the micropouch.
My incesion is about 1 inch longer than a common RNY because of the part
of the stomach the doctor used. He had to cut higher up to reach that part
of my stomach. My surgery is transcended. Stomach juices are produced in
the lower part of my original stomach and do meet my food at the
"Y" in my intestines for digestion. The upper most top part of
the stomach that is non elastic and does not stretch is used for the pouch.
I have 150 cm bypassed. I absorb just like any other RNY, and I can eat
just as much, or more at a sitting. The pouch empties into the intestine
faster, thus causing a full feeling faster. I do not lose weight any
faster, but I am told that it does keep the pouch from stretching so long
term weight maintainace is improved and no revisions required for pouch
enlargement. There is none, or very litte, acid production in the upper
part of the stomach, so my refulx was completely cured.
I have not studied the Fobi pouch. So I do not know the difference. Maybe
someone who has had the Fobi can answer that.
