Question:
Insurance approved me, but I need a psych evaluation now
The surgeon needs a psych evaluation done and referred me to a Dr. Crowe here in Minnesota. Unfortunately, he is not a member of Health Partners. So, my insurancfe recommended two psychiatrists to go to. One, couldn't get me in until AFTER my surgery date, so that's a no go. The other one can get me in 13 days before my surgery date. So I'm going with that one. His name is John Nelson, and is in St. Louis Park, MN. I'm worried that this psychiatrist won't be a wls friendly doctor. Could he ruin my chances? My insurance doesn't require the psych eval, just the surgeon does. Has anyone heard of this doctor? How do these psych eval's go? Any points anyone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!! — Goldilauxx B. (posted on December 12, 2001)

What they are looking for is the fact that you are not expecting
too much from this surgery and are a sound minded person. I do not
believe that they are really delving into your brain just that you are
not totally nuts.

Thanks both of you. I do not drink alcohol at all. Never have. I fully
understand the complications of this surgery and eating patterns, side
affects, etc... I have done extensive research on this subject. I
appreciate your feedback! Thank you!

and ask them to recommend a WLS friendly psyche--worked like a charm for
me--Best of luck to ya!!
