Question:
Does this qualify as a supervised diet?
In order to be approved by my insurance, there are a few stipulations. I understand all of them, and believe I qualify, however one is a little "iffy". My insurance states: Failure of non-surgical treatment within the past 12 months that includes the following: Medically supervised dietary regimen attempted for a least 6 months and lifestyle management and support.
I had a baby in March of this year. For my entire pregnancy I had physician visits and he monitored my diet (I actually lost weight in the beginning and leveled off to losing nothing in the end). My first pregnancy I gained 60 lbs. This [regnancy, because of diet, I gained nothing.
By me seeing this physician "count" as what my insurance says I had to have done? By the way, my insurance is Health Partners. — Goldilauxx B. I bet this will qualify. I would just get the buy in from your ob that you
are reporting this as a doctor supervised diet so if on the slight chance
that they ever questioned him/her on this they will back you up.

If I were you, I think I would pad it with as much information as I
possibly could about every other weight loss program you have ever been on.
Anything medically supervised, of course, and provide documentation. If
you ever went to one of those "Diet Clinics" like Lindora, or
Medics...they supposedly have a doctor (you never see him) and they count
as medically supervised. Fen-phen was medically supervised. I even
provided documentation of each time I had attended Weight Watchers, Jenny
Craig, etc. I listed each and every gym membership I had ever had. When my
surgeon looked at my spread sheet (yes...try to lay it all out clearly and
concisely, chronologically if you can) he whistled and said "wow...it
looks like you have tried absolutely everything...several times!"
That is exactly what you want your insurance company to say...you've tried
EVERYTHING except wls. Good luck!

Thanks. I HAVE tried everything: Lindora, Jenny Craig, Nutri-System,
Weight Watchers, F-Plan Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, Atkins Diet..... and I've
used Phentermine, Dexatrim..... The thing is, this has been all through my
life. My insurance says FOR SIX MONTHS WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. In the
last 12 months, it's only been supervised while pregnant.
