Question:
At what month did your weight stabilize?
I've heard different time frames for the "window of opportunity". I am currently 16 months post op, and have not lost in 2 months. Is my "window" officially closed? Has anyone out there lost after 16 months? (I have about 15 more pounds to go) Thanks — [Anonymous] (posted on November 13, 2001)

I stabilized early...at month 13....30lbs. from my goal...and no
matter how hard I try, I can't get to my goal. I can lose 5lbs...but
that's all.

presently I am 17 months post-op. I have been steady at my current weight,
45 pounds from goal, for almost five months now(so, about the 12th month),
after a loss of 150 pounds. I really do think it depends on your body, and
any past weight you have stayed at for a while.

I lost 143 pounds in the first 18 months, then my weight stablized and
stayed the same for about 5 months. I lost another 1 pound the following
month, then 2 more pounds this month. So, at 2 years post-op, my weight is
staying stable and actually dropping a bit below my former low weight. My
weight loss chart is at the following URL:

I thought I had stopped losing weight at 16 months, however, I dropped
another 15 by the 19th month.. I have stabilized now and have remained at
goal for the last 3 months.. I would like to lose another 10 pounds, but
don't think that will happen either.. I'm technically at my goal weight so
I am VERY HAPPY.. My PCP started me on injection hormone replacement now
that I am so thin and no longer have the weight on my bones to prevent
osteoporosis.. And since the injections started I have regained 3 pounds..
He said to expect 5 pounds or so.. So even if I settle in at 145 pounds
I will still be ok for my height and VERY well satisfied.. I have heard
that those that loose very fast initially the window closes sooner..
likewise those that lose slowly lose weight longer... Don't know if that
is accurate just what I have observed..

I've lost 167 in 18 months. I still would like to lose another 15-20,
although I am under my surgeon's goal for me by 12 pounds. I know I can do
it, but it's going to take exercise and effort. That's my new year's
resolution! Even if I don't lose anymore, I'm down from a 5X to a M in
pants and shirts for the first time in my adult life.

I actually stabilized at during the 11th month. I fluctuated 10 pounds in
three weeks (5 down, 5 up, then back down again). I stayed there for three
months. Then in October, I was in the hospital and didn't eat much at all.
I lost 5 pounds then and have kept that off. Even we can lose if we
starve ourselves! Interestingly, when I lost that 5 pounds, I begin to
say, "ekk, I look too thin". I think my body has stopped because
it is it ITS goal. Can't fight city hall!
