Question:
Strong smelling urine?
I have very strong smelling urine, only sometimes. And dark. I am 7 months post-op. I drink 80-100 ounces of water everyday, so it isn't dehydration. Also, I am taking a prenatal, that does change the urine color, I know, but that makes it bright for me, and this is kind of dark. I'm not eating a lot of asparagus or anything weird, either. The smell is very, musky almost, I'm like, " God, is that me?" It has happened a couple times a week, no seeming pattern for about a month. Any clue? I don't think I have a bladder or kidney infection... I certainly know all about that. THANKS! — M. A. B. (posted on October 25, 2001)

I had that, from soon after surgery, until about a month
ago....(I'm 4.5 months post-op now).....a very strong odor to my
urine....then it disappeared...

Your urine should be clear and not strong smelling. Your electrolytes could
be off. Try v-8 splash or gatorade. And increase your water. That should
bring the color to where it is suppossed to be and take care of the smell.
My urine was so dark that it looked like blood. I thought I had a kidney or
bladder infection. It turned out my electrolytes were off too.

See you pcp ASAP, it could be something as simple as a bladder infection or
more importantly a kidney infection since blood can look brown/black. When
that happened to me I checked the color of the whites of my eyes and they
were yellowish and it meant something was going on with my liver, it ended
up being a stone in my common bile duct that blocked the liver and had to
be taken care of that day. If you still have your gallbladder you could
have a stone stuck in your bile duct.
Get in to see your pcp ASAP.
