Question:
Any post ops with Polycystic ovarian syndrome where things have actually
gotten better as far as pain, flow, fertility and such.DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH..... I am now getting ready to start my cycle for the first time after surgery. It has my whole entire abdomen hurting. I am hoping as I loose weight, things will get better and I'll actually have a day when I can get out of bed during that dreaded week. Can someone give me some good news? *** Just so everyone knows - I looked for this question in the library, and yes it was asked but wasn't really answered. — K T. (posted on September 16, 2001)

Hi there. I suffered from PCOS for a number of years. You have to remember
that each one of us is different, and that we all will not react the same
way. With that said, I did start my period two weeks after WLS. This is
after no period for over two years. I always had horrendous cramps and
extremely heavy bleeding. I called it hemorrhaging. I couldn't leave the
house, let alone work. The pain was unbearable, and the bleeding so heavy
that I did not dare to go anywhere!!!!My PCP, after shots to stop it and
shots to start it again, sent me to a GYN, who found I had developed a
fibroid in my uterus and my lining was thicker than she had ever seen. And
never mind about the hair growth!! After tests and Birth Control pills
(hormone therapy) I can finally brag that I have fairly normal periods with
only mild discomfort. She felt that my PCOS was definitely due to my
weight. Getting pregnant wasn't an issue for me (my son is 19) so I can't
comment on how this would help fertility wise. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I would never have really bad cramps at 277lb., I would always have what I
thought were ovulation pains, but I think it was now just cysts bursting.
My period (after not having one for 1.5 years) are very normal and regular
and I am at 187lbs..

I am three months post op and today is the second day of my first period in
two years. I have UNBELIEVABLE cramps. I've managed to control them with
Midol, Advil and Thermacare patches. Thanks for the question the answers
posted have really helped.

I am 19 months post op. I am being treated by an Endocrinologist for my
PCOS. I began taking Metformin, one year post op, and it made me have
regular, normal periods. Here are links for more info:
www.pcosupport.com and www.soulcysters.com
My periods are now bearable. Please do your research. PCOS needs to be
treated properly, you are predisposed to Diabetes Type II and
Cardiovascular Disease.
Good Luck . Allison
