Question:
Has anyone felt their taste buds were out of kelter after surgery ?
Nothing I eat tastes as it should. Is this a normal occurence after surgery ? If so, will that change back to normal ? — Donna N. (posted on March 25, 2000)

Hi Donna,
I can relate to this big time. I had surgery on 2-4-00. Ever since then
things taste different. One day something will taste so good, the next it
well taste horriable. I talked to my surgeon about it and he said it was
normal and we dont know how long it is going to last either. Everyone is
different and I might never stop having this problem who knows. If
something taste horriable I just do not eat it and find something else to
eat. It is a challeage everyday to find good food. I hope I have helped.
You are not alone.

Great Question, I am so glad this is being addressed. I have lost the
taste for many things. Coffee, meat, Somthing will smell so good to me and
I go to eat it, no taste, hubby says it is good. So I have to rely on him
when cooking. Thank goodness tuna tastes good to me. good protein.

Hi, Donna--I'm 8 monhts postop and remember very well how different things
tasted for about 3 months after surgery---I have still lost my taste for
some things (things taste WAY sweeter than before since I've been off
sugar), but, basically, by now things taste more normal again. My surgeon
says the anesthesia causes this taste problem.
Good luck to you! Charlene
