Question:
Did i disrupt my staple line
I am almost 3 wks post-op VBG and have never thrown up. I usually eat till i feel full or have discomfort. Tonite we went to hooters and i had about 8 - 9 chicken wings. I ate after i felt full. I had a pain on the left side of my stomach and i wonder if i could have torn the staples? I didn't throw up or even be nauseus. I was on liquid diet for 3 days. The doctor had me on solids before i left the hospital. How easy is it to tear the staple line? Thanks for any info! — Mary C. (posted on November 22, 1999)

Staples lines do disrupt in VBGs, and it can be done by stretching your
pouch. Mine did, but 2 1/2 years after the procedure. I regained all the
weight I lost plus some. You can't tell if you have a disruption without
an endoscopy.
I'm in the process of revising my procedure to an RNY. I wish I had done
my research the first time around or I would not have opted for the VBG.
All the surgeons I have spoken with say the RNY is the best way to go.
Good luck.
