Question:
has anyone had trouble sleeping after surgery?
I am 1 week post-op and have trouble sleeping. I tend to wake -up alot. I didn't have this problem before. Any ideas? — Mary C. (posted on November 10, 1999)

Yes... I had some problems getting to sleep or staying asleep for the first
few weeks. I am just 4 weeks post op and I am finally finding a normal
pattern in my sleep. I think mostly my problem was that I was in the
hospital for six days and I was awoke quit a bit throughout the nights and
when I got home I was waking up at these times. I found that sleeping in
our "E-Z chair" for a few weeks helped me too... I wasn't
sleeping so flat, and wasn't as painful to my tummy area. just try to rest
as often as you can, your body will let you know you need sleep. :-) best
wishes!

I had a very difficult time sleeping for several weeks after
surgery. My surgeon suggested it might have something to
do with the anasthesia. It eventually got better. It
probably takes several weeks for that stuff to work its
way out of your system.
