Question:
What is the process for changing surgeons?
I was approved, but for an out-of network surgeon (long story) now that I found an in network surgeon, does he have to resubmit my packet,or is there an easier, quicker way to get authorazation? — julie B. (posted on March 25, 2003)

I had to change surgeons also, i had copies of everything, i had my
approval letter with me also and took it to the new surgeon, then they
wrote a letter that they were taking over my care and waited for the
insurance approval to confirm him being ok to do the surgery where before
they approved the surgery but not the surgeon. It took a month for them to
submit the letter ( i wasnt happy about that) and then a couple weeks for
my ins to respond to it, they said approved since he was in my directory
where the other wasnt).
Good luck.

This happened to me! My surgery was delayed over hospital & insurance
matters by my 1st surgeon, that could not be resolved in over 3 nmonths and
I looked else where.
As long as I went to a Dr in my network, there would be no problem. It was
approved over the phone, as I waited in the next room on my 1st visit to my
new surgeon.
This all took place on a Thursday and I had surgery 5 days later.
Having the approval for WLS sure did speed things along!
I am 6 weeks post op today and feeling great! I have lost 35 pounds and
over 20 inches.
I had Aetna. You should call and check all the info with your insurance.
They are all different. You don't want to be surprised later with bills!
Good Luck & God Bless
