Question:
How long after Lap RNY before you can safely and comfortably sleep on your stomach?

Hi...I am 3 months post-op and I'm pretty sure I was about 3 weeks post-op before I could comfortably sleep on my sides (with a body pillow clutched between my legs and hugged to my chest). I would think it would be around a month before it would be comfortable, but everyone heals differently and has discomfort in different areas. IMHO 3 to 4 weeks out. Be sure to have lots of pillows so you can sleep comfortably...my back and hips were beginning to kill me from sleeping constantly in one position. Good luck to you!!

I could hardly wait for the day! I too, think it was about the third week mark.

I am 5 weeks post-op and I can now sleep any which way. When I was pre-op, I read here that many people slept their first few weeks on a recliner so I went out and bought one. It was a life saver. There was no way I was able to sleep to sleep on a bed during those first 2 weeks.

I had surgery on a Tuesday, came home from hospital Thursday and was sleeping on my side and stomach on Saturday. I have never had any problems. I have to say though Thursday night and Friday night I didnt sleep for more than 2 hours at a time, but Saturday night I slept all night through in all my usual sleep positions.

I had lap rny on 4/11/02 which was a Thursday. I was released from the hospital on Saturday and was sleeping on my side that night. I had the drain removed on Monday, and made sure it was ok with my surgeon for me to sleep on my tummy. That is the only way I can sleep normally. I didn't have any pain or any problems. I slept through the night, and never needed pain medications once I was home.

I am one month post-op today. I started sleeping on my side and stomach one week after surgery. It wasn't something I thought about.... I woke up on my stomach one morning and I wasn't in pain... so I went with it.

I started sleeping on my side the day of surgery. The nurse said as long as it didn't hurt me that it was fine. I was sleeping on my stomach about 4 days post-op. I was one of the lucky ones and really didn't have any pain after surgery!!! GOOD LUCK!

Hello. I am 37 days post op. I wasn't able to sleep on my sides until the 3rd week. I can somewhat sleep on half of my stomach as long as my knee is bent a little. I cannot comfortably lie flat on my stomach yet.
