Question:
Does anybody know alot about Aetna Open Choice Insurance?
The nurse's review has sent it on to the medical review board. I know that is where the denials come from. Does this mean that chances are my surgery will be denied? Has anybody else had this happen? — Rene C. (posted on April 18, 2002)

I have AETNA Open Choice PPO. I had the D.S. a little over a year ago, and
had no problems getting it approved. I was approved within a week of the
initial request. They have also authorized the Abdominoplasty that I
having next month. Good luck!

Hello, I had AETNA PPO Open choice also.. I didn't have a problem at all.
It took a little time cuz it was the beginning of the year. I had a bmi of
41 with the only comorb's was back pain, gallbladder, and high blood
pressure. The review is just where they decide. Don't give up hope! I was
sure they would tell me I wasn't heavy enough or sick enough. All that
worring for nothing! Keep calling and asking if it is out of review.. I
think review just means it is setting on someones desk waiting for them to
look at it!!That is how I found out I was approved, I called and the nurse
said I was approved. I didn't wait for the doc to call me. Good luck! And
God Bless!!

I also have aetna open choice and had no problem. I had a BMI of >43,
but was approved within a week. Of course, I have several comorbidities
(arthritis, GERD, asthma and hypertension). I just called them in one week
expecting the "runaround" and was told it was approved!
