Question:
How long does approval take for this insurance carrier? Beech Street

My insurance is through Beech Street and my first letter was sent on 1/11/02. I know that the insurance company has it because a request for additional information was sent to me and my doctor. But when I call to check on the status of my pre-cert I get all kinds of excuses and roadblocks! and they tell me that there is nothing in the computer and when I ask for the person in claims that "sent" the letter for additional info, I was told that she doesn't exsist! Oh Kathy...Can I tell you about waiting! It took me 6 months to get approval. My suggestion to you is to call about every other day. Most likely that person does not exist but someone has your file. Be pleasant, calm but regular in your contact. Email me if you hit a denial and I'll be happy to help you through that.

I have Beech Street as well. I took it upon myself to find out who was in charge of my company at the insurance company. Then when the doctor sent my letter off I also faxed it to this person. Within 1 hour of me faxing it to the person, I had my pre-certification. But I was prepared with everything they wanted before they asked for it. For instance, I needed a diet history, medical letter of necessity and letter from my PCP stating my weight was not caused by any underlying causes. All of that was submitted at the same time. My insurance is a combination of Gilsbar and Beechstreet. I couldn't get anywhere with them on the phone either so i got their e mail address and wrote to them once a week, asking where my claim stood. I always got a reply. As for the phone calls. I am approved as of Feb 18th, and still waiting on them to return my first phone call. It took me eight weeks of bugging them.
