Question:
How many surgeons have you on solid foods before leaving the hospital after RNY?
I have heard this from patients of my surgeon. I have not had my one-on-one with him yet, but this sounds so different from anything I've read on this board. — Pam L. (posted on January 30, 2001)

I don't know about 'solid' foods, but I've always felt my surgeon fast
tracks us to food and I'm glad! In the hospital, I was first brought hard
candy (sugar free), then immediately a whole tray of coffee (yes,
caffeine), creamed soup, s/f yogurt and s/f pudding. We had to wait until
2 weeks for solid foods -- and then 2 weeks after that for raw fruits and
veggies. This is SO must faster than what many talk about -- but, then,
our surgeon has been doing this for 30+ years and is a founding member of
the Bariatric surgeons. This causes us no harm, I've never thrown up
either. I feel so sorry for those who have to be on clear liquids for a
while, then the whole thing is drawn out -- I don't know how they have the
willpower to follow such a regimine -- best wishes.

Hi. I just came home on this past Friday and had surgery on that Monday the
22nd. I was on ice chips for 3 days never felt hungry. The 4th day I was
brought clear liquids for breakfast and lunch which was jello, broth and
tea and juice. Then for dinner that night I was brought pureed food which
was chicken in gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and cheese soup, juice,
tea. Breakfast the next morning was malt-o-meal and coffee, and juice. I
never had any problems with any of it and I never had any nausea. I came
home on Pureed foods and I will be on it for about 2 weeks and go to full
solid foods. I go to get my staples out tomorrow so I will find out more on
the food. If there is anything I can help with let me know and email me.
HUGS Vicki
