Question:
I would like to know how much weight is normal to regain longterm?
I am wondering what the typical percentage of weight regain is after an RNY proximal? I am looking especially for people more than three years out. Please help!!! — Nikki (. (posted on December 2, 2000)

My surgeon's information booklet says "An average of 40% of
preoperative weight is lost. An average of 6% weight regain occurs three
to five years after surgery." This is for RNY with approx. 5 feet
bypassed. He also says 2/3 of the success is due to the operation;
however, 1/3 is dependent upon the patient (in particular their eating and
exercise habits.)
