Question:
Proximal, Medial, Distal

I attendant a seminar recently with a friend, the surgeon explained how he did a side-to-side jejuna jejunostomy (spelling may not be correct)at a distance of 250 cm.. I have watched on this site how some members have talked what is proximal and distal means, but is there an approximate number that defines that.. I guess what I'm asking is the higher the number for distal or lower the number more distal... I among others on here may be confused by this..I'd like to see a surgeon or lay person answer this. I'm just confused as to what 250 cm is proximal, medial, or distal since that is the only reference number I have heard a surgeon talk about..    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 29, 2000)

This is the amount bypassed? So, about 10 ft. I have about 18 ft bypassed and couldn't be happier. But then, I am dependent on my supplements and know it. It is my preference just to take my supplements and be able to maintain my weight without "dieting". I still eat sensibly, of course, no milk, no sugar, but I AM dependent on supplements. If you want to talk to someone who is 6 yrs out distal, I'm happy to discuss it.
