I was wondering the same thing, I seem to get "heartburn" in the
middle of the night. I take 2 tums and it is gone. I was on 10 years of
prilocec before that. I guess some people after surgery have to continue
taking it. Don't know why.

I had the same problem, and the heartburn/reflux was the major reason I
pushed myself to have the surgery. My gastrointerologist said no one would
perform surgery on me because of my size. Thus he referred me to Dr. Vierra
who performs the gastric bypass. I began experiencing the worst heartburn
of my life after the surgery while still in the hospital. They were
putting Pepcid in my IV and I still was downing antiacid all day and night.
I went through a pint the first week I was at home. Now I take Prevacid
twice a day. The Dr. doesn't know why I still have heartburn. He wants me
to go off the Prevacid now but I can't endure the heartburn when I do. I'm
4 weeks out of surgery now.
