Question:
Please follow your surgeons dietary guidelines/timetable......
OK, I know all of us post-ops have pushed that envelope and tried diffrent foods a little too soon.. Word of warning..(voice of experience here) I was on liquid diet still (will be for 5 more weeks). I was told at 4 weeks post-op I could have an egg, cream of wheat, mashed potatoes (all thinned out of course) Either it was not thin enough or something went wrong!!!! It caused a sever esophagus spasms and spinster irretation..swelled up so much only a trickle of liquids would go down, the spasms were so bad I didn't want to eat or drink anything at all. I called my Surgeon. First question was, what are you eating.. He reminded me, liquids still (things thin enough to suck through a straw) and that even puree was out some people heal differently from others and not all surgeries the same and that every surgeon has his/her opinion when to progress from liquid to puree, soft to regular.. So moral of this story I'm fine now.. Spasms all gone. (took three days) And I am following my surgeon's plan to the letter.. I'll call this a learning experiance. Victoria Lynn — Victoria B. Thanks for the advise Vickie. I'm preop1/13/00 and just got my written
eating plan for the first 3 weeks adfter surgery. I plan to follow it to
the "T".
If I mess up it'll be because I didn't read labels or just didn't tolerate
something. I've got broth, jello, crstal light, etc. already in house.
Again, thanks for warning. Lou Ann
