Question:
Has anyone else received a snail mail letter with an advertisement...

Just wondered if anyone had this same rather peculiar letter in the snail mail.. I receive a letter postmarked from Santa Ana Calif.. Inside was a newspaper clipping with an advertisement for "Berry Trim"... it had a hand written note on the top sheet saying the following .."Victoria try it..it works"... I don't give out my address online nor do I know anyone in Calif.. I was concerned to say the least.. I know it was probably a good jester on someone part to stop me from having this surgery, however, I have not taken this step lightly and I have (8) pages of documented weight loss attempts. So, my point is there is no miracle pill out there trust me I know..I have tried them all.. Thank you for your anonymous suggestion, however, all it did was show me that there is another (fantasy pill) out there giving false hope and making someone very rich off those of us that are struggling everyday to live a normal life.. Ok, I'm stepping down off the soap box.....    — Victoria B. (posted on November 10, 1999)

Vicki, I received the same thing months ago, and I like you never give out my address. I don't know who is sending them out but I got mine before I ever thought of surgery. I tore it up too, I've wasted so much money on magic pills I didn't want to waste anymore.

Hi, I to have received this letter actually a few times over the past few years, I also have friends and my mother who has received them. I don't beleive that they are in any way connected to checking into this surgery, I think that with all of the other diets , pills, etc. that we all have done that there is a mailing list that this particular company has purchased, it happens all the time, not just with diets!!

Don't take it personally Vickie--it's a mass mailing. I received it a couple times well before I looked into weight loss surgery. I wondered at the time if it could be one of my distant relatives in California trying to tell me something but then a friend of mine got it too so we new it was just another obnoxious marketing scheme. Good luck to you!

I also received a letter like you mentioned. Obviously, mine had my name handwritten with the message try it it really works. I have no idea how I got on the mailing list. I though it was someone who knew me who just sent it anomomously!

We've received similar mailings like this at the office! The last one was a little post-it note stuck to a sheet that looked like it had been ripped from a magazine. The product they were selling was some investment publication. I think these people must hire high school kids and have them write out these little post-its kind of a new take on telemarketing. I think you just got on some mailing list!

Hi Vicki: I'm sure it was just a product mailing off some mailing list. It just happened to show up as a coincidence. Forget it!

Yeah. I haven't gotten one in many months, but for awhile I was getting them every few months maybe for a couple of years. I was quite hurt by them. I thought they were from someone from my office in L.A. (I'm in SF) I figured they meant well, and had no idea how hurtful these anonymous missiles were. I am so relieved you posted this and I found out that it's a mass mailing. Thanks.

Vicki, I live in Yorba Linda, CA, (about 10 miles from Santa Ana) and I have received this letter for about 3 years now. I thought it was a "helpful" friend sending it to me and I was quite annoyed that they wrote... "Peri.. try this, it works..." on it, with no name or return address. They probably got our name off some diet product that we purchased...

I received the same ad ! At first I thought it was a cruel person, but then I realized it wasn't. It was irritating to me, and I wonder where they got my address. I thought it might have been from the time I ordered Richard Simmons Exercise Tapes. They probably sold their data base. I was very angry that that was probably the source because Richard Simmons as goofy as he is promotes a sensible form of weight loss, that for some people really is the answer. For his company to be responsible for selling my information to such a sleazy, and perhaps dangerous product was disheartening. Kelly

Hi, all! Obviously, the marketing gurus are still at it. I recieved the "Berry Trim" ad with the "handwritten note" also about 4 months ago, less than 2 months before surgery. I'm still puzzled how I got on the mailing list, but I knew it was a marketing ploy! I really hate that some marketing firm would be so cruel. I know some people really felt that someone they knew sent it to them! This is why I hate telemarketers, mass mailers, spammers, etc.

I live in NY and I recieved this letter about 3-5 years ago too. At the time, I was soooooo upset and started to cry. Mainly because I was anorexic at the time and just lost over 60lbs in 2 months. Even to this day I have no clue how they got my address.
