I love this site because I will be having surgery Oct 5 and I have many questions, If everyone would tell what type of surgery they had it would help to know if this could pertain to us and our situation. thank you! I will be having RYn by-pass at St, Vincent hospital. I would like to hear from more people who have had this surgery and how they are doing any problems like running to the potty at inconvenient times. Also I would like to hear from Dr. Huse patients. Any information I could use would be appreciated. — Judy L. (posted on September 19, 1999)

Hi, as everyone will tell you, we are all different. I had lap rny 6/16/99
and havent experienced any problems running to the bathroom. In fact, just
the opposite. I do watch what I eat and know I have to avoid dairy and
sugar so that helps. Linda

I had an open gastric bypass on August 19th. You can e-mail me if you have
any questions at [email protected]. And congratulations on your surgery
date. Are you having a distal, medial or proximal. I had a medial.

Distal gastric bypass, 10/94. My husband is the same, 10/95. He has
chronic diarrhea, I have chronic constipation. Both of us are at the
bottem of our wt range, are totally dependent on supplements for nutrition,
but can eat almost anything. We avoid milk & sugar, because they'll
make us fat again. We were done here in WA state, so our procedure and
after care will differ from yours. At this point, I'd choose to do exactly
what I did, who did it, the after care he recmomends with ONE tiny change.
In 1994, I have several rows of staples/sutures. But with the liklihood of
staple line disruption at 40% or better, I'd choose to be transected, which
is the way he does them after 1996. Then I'd be 112 lbs AND not living in
terror of staple line disruption.
