Question:
Why do I have migraines?
I am about 2 months post op. For the past couple of weeks I have been having migraine headaches. Has anyone else had this? — [Anonymous] (posted on August 26, 1999)

Hi,
Did you have sleep apena? If so, have you quit using your c-pap machine?
If so, you may need to go back to using it. I know when I quit using mine,
due to a really bad sore on my nose. I started geting excruating headaches
that felt just as bad as a migraine headache, but what it was lack of
oxegen getting to my brain. As soon as I went back on the c-pap, the
headaches went away.
I don't know if this is your problem, but I thought I would throw it out
there for you in case it would be. I hope you get some relief.
Hugs,
Edie

I get migraines if I eat anything that has nutri-sweet in it. Had used
products that contained nutri-sweet for years. When I stated getting
migraines, tried various things to no avail. The headaches just got worst
and more frequent. A friend who was seeing a doctor for migraines was told
to elimate nutri-sweet from her diet. I stopped using nutri-sweet, the
headaches stopped. I am pre sugery.

Yes- I too have been having migranes. And you know the only thing over the
counter for migranes is Excedrin ( which we are not supposed to take) I
called Addison Hospital to ask about it. The doctor said I could take
Excedrin Migrane as soon as it starts and it would be ok.
So thats what I've been doing. As soon as it starts, I take it and it goes
immed.
I also called to get a referral fora doctor close to me how knew about this
operation and all it possible complications that could sort of give me
post-op care but they haven't gotten back with me. I am very dissatisfied
with my post op care. I think I need better follow-op care than what I'm
getting. I haven't found the cause of the migranes yet. Please if you find
out e-mail me ok. Sheila Winters

Hi, I know this is an old question but I wanted to respond in case you or
anyone else is having this problem. I had not had migraines for years and
at about 3 weeks postop got one so severe I had to go into the Dr's and get
a shot. After this I got them every few days for a couple weeks. I got a
prescription for Imitrex which is an injection I would give myself at onset
of headache, and it worked really well for me. I asked my surgeon why I
suddenly began having these migraines all the time and he said that it was
very common after WLS for people to have exacerbations of migraines and
they didn't know if it was because of hormones released by fat cells in the
first weeks of ultra rapid weight loss or just the drastic change in eating
habits that triggers this. He said that they will slow down in frequency
as your body adjusts and that has been the case for me. Good luck to you
and all of us.
