Question:
Has anyone else had problems with acne after surgery?
I've had facial breakouts since approx. 1month post op. I was wondering if I'm alone in this. If not, do you know what causes this and how long it lasts post-op? Thanks for your input. — Jane H. (posted on July 9, 1999)

Yes, me too. I'm 9 years post and I still get break outs. If you are
female, it is caused by hormones that have been stored in fat cells now
being lost and the hormones are being flushed out right along with them.
Your system is over run with estrogen. Not altogether a bad thing. I have
yet to find something to help with this one, if you stumble across
something that works, please, let me know too. :~)

I started breaking out soon after surgery. My internist perscribed sumycin
250 MG two times a day. This has cleared up the worst blemishes but I
still get new ones and I don't have a clear complexion like I used to.

I've had a moderate problem with acne for most of my adult life. Im still
pre-op but recently I went on an antibiotic called Doxycycline and have
seen a great improvement in just the 2 weeks that Ive been using it. Ive
had no new breakouts. Im taking it twice a day for the first month and
than can cut back to once a day. My aunts have been taking Tetra Cycline
(an older version of Doxycycline) for many years and swear by the results.
The only side affect is sensitivity to sunlight which is remedied with
sunscreen. There could be mild stomach upset and diarrhea during the first
week or so until your body adjusts to the medication.

Yes! Me too! I don't know what exactly is causing it. I've read some of
the other answers posted to this question but I haven't decided on whether
I'm going to give it a little longer or ask a dermotologist for something.
I'm almost 6 weeks post op RNY and it's really bugging me. I just keep my
face as clean as possible and drink LOTS of water to help flush out the
toxins I've stored in my body. Hopefully, this will help. Boy, we're
experiencing all kinds of new stuff, huh?
