Question:
Any advice for getting through a plateau?
I am eight months postop RNY. I have done very well, but have really been struggling for the past six weeks. I'm still exercising and being careful with my diet, but it seems that I am so hungry all of the time right now. I would like to hear from anyone with advice. Thanks, Beth — Beth B. Are you near your 100 lbs lost mark? Are you avoiding milk 'n sugar? Are
you taking any sugar-fre, lactose-free high protein supplements? Are you
taking a good multi-mineral?
The 100 lb mark seems to trigger the old, "Help! I'm starving!"
thing.
Milk 'n sugar create more need for same, as well as slowing your weight
loss.
Good protein suppplements can cut cravings for high fat AND sugary foods,
as well as stopping that starvation mode thing.
A good multi-mineral does similarly, in that it provides the trace
minerals. With our bypass, we lose some vitamins & some minerals with
the calories. We also can crave Bad Things to get that one little mineral.
WE use KAL Amino-Max. Biggest pill I've ever seen! But I'd rather the pill
was BIG and I am SMALL!

I stopped loosing significant amounts of weight at 6 months
and have lost only an additional 18 lb in another year.
The hunger you are feeling is what I call 'MIND HUNGER'..we are
addicts..and this is how we go thru withdrawal. It is really rough..but
you CAN do it. Allow yourself 6 mini meals a day...eat your protein first,
veggie second and salad...even if you aren't hungry do this til you get
over your mind hunger.
This was the hardest part for me! For the first time I realized I WAS a
food addict...

Protein, protein, and more protein. Then water, water, and more water. Oh
yeah, and take all your vitamins...double up on B-12.
