Question:
Can someone get in touch with me that had this longterm post op issue?
My daughter has been in the hospital 36 days, many days on a ventilator and about three weeks spent on a ventilator. Her recovery has been slow and painful. She has an ostomy and cannot retain vitamins. I need to know the course of treatment for other people. — corliss (posted on September 9, 2005)

Sorry to hear it has been that painfull and such a slow process, I just got
home from having several internal hernias repaired. My pain lasted for
about three weeks, had ct scans and x-rays and nothing showed up, went back
to see my surgeon and she said it sounded like internal hernias, she went
in the next day repaired many, I feel great and Came home the same day, If
they are not repaired many bad things can happen, as I am sure you are
going through, I do not know if they performed surgery but that is the only
way to fix the problem. Hope everything works out, prayers and hugs to you
and your daughter.

I'm not real clear what your question is. Are you asking what normal
recovery is? Most people are out of the hospital within a week and are
back to work in 6 - 12 weeks depending on their jobs. Your daughter is
definitely not having the ususal case. What were her complications? There
are so many things that can go wrong in surgery for obease people. While
many, many people have no problems at all, it is still a high risk surgery
because of our size.
