Question:
I will be having a Cat Scans how much of the drink can my stomach hold?
I am suppose to drink one bottle 8 ounces at night then the next morning drink the other one before my Cat Scans. I don't see how I can drink a bottle of that at one time. Hasve any one had this problem? I am now 17 month out of surgery. — Mary L. (posted on July 18, 2004)

I had to have upper endoscopy, gall bladder sonogram, and a colonscopy. I
bought a 3 oz bottle of phosphosoda. My instructions from my doctor was to
drink 1 1/2 oz and then the other 1 1/2 oz 4 hrs later. I had the dry
heaves extremely bad. There is no way I could have held 8 oz. Please call
your doctor, maybe he doesn't understand that you've had gastric bypass. I
made sure & reminded everyone that I talked with that I had had the
surgery. Good luck

I am 3 1/2 months post op and just had to have a ct scan done. When I got
to the imaging center I let them know I had GP surgery and they did not
make me drink it at all. They done the fluid by IV. Check with your
facility and see what they can do. I could never have gotten down even a
1/3 of the 8 oz. GOOD LUCK

Hi. I just had a cat scan 3 days ago. I am 4-1/2mos. post op for a
proximal lap rny. I was in the emergency room and the test was ordered
there. I was told I needed to drink two 8oz glasses of a liquid mixed with
ginger ale but I told them I was a gastric bypass patient and was allowed
to drink it with my choice of juice and I had an hour to get both glasses
down. Not a problem. It is a liquid and it goes straight through the
pouch and stoma so long as it is given time to "filter or drain"
down through. Just think of it as water. Hope you have no problems. Deb

I had a cat scan last week and was supposed to drink two bottles of the
contrast. I was able to drink one bottle and that worked fine. I think
they want the contrast to pass further. I don't really understand why they
didn't have me drink some the night before. Lynda ME/FL
