I did just to get that nasty ketosis taste out of my mouth. Had no problems, you just need to be careful that you don't swallow it. Don't know if that would cause a problem or not but guess it possibly could.

I chew Sugar Free Trident gum to get the blah taste out of my mouth. I am very careful not to swallow the gum. I haven't had any problems.

I have read that you should not chew gum just in case you swallow it. I can get caught and block the opening to your stomache.

I've always been a "gum chewer" and having my surgery hasn't stopped that. Those of us who've had gastric bypass are not supposed to have anything to drink from 30-60 minutes after eating. I find that chewing a piece of gum helps me get through that time without drinking and pushing my food through the pouch too quickly.

I had chewed some gum around that time, but then I read here so many people tell horror stories about it that I switched over to Sugar Free breath savers mints. I keep them with me all the time! Great for that funky weight loss breath. :-P

I have been chewing gum since day 5 post-op. I accidently swallowed a piece and I had no problems. I was real nervous for the next few days though. I still chew gum, but I am alot more conscious of my chewing habits

I chew sugarless gum, no problem. The only thing I've noticed is that it makes me belch. LOL. Good Luck to you.~~~Kelly Open RNY 11/20/2002 315/125~~~

I'm a big gum chewer and I was chewing gum the afternoon after surgery, and have every day since. I have never swallowed gum so if you are a person who has I probably wouldn't try it. It really helps me when I have that feeling I just want to chew something and with the really awful breath we get from Ketosis.....Nancy

I chewed sf gum 10 days after surgery. It seemed to help settle my stomach a bit. I've never been a gum swallower, so it has created no problems for me. I've always liked chewing gum, and am glad I didn't have to stop.
