Question:
Hi Everyone...I am one year out and my surgeon+-
has just informed me that I will need my gallbladder out. Does anyone know if this is done outpatient? Do they go in through the same incisions as the Lap Rny? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks — KellyL (posted on March 25, 2004)

Hi, From what I know of ppl who have had their gallbladder out, they have
had to stay in the hospital for at least a day or two after having surgery,
and as for having it done thru the same incisions when you had lap rny,
that is soemthing you need to ask your doc I am not forsure there. Good
Luck to you!

yes, it is often done on an outpatient basis. I don't think they would use
the same incisions, however. Scar tissue issues. Hope this helps.

I'm having my gallbladder out on April the 5th. It is going to be lap, and
outpatient surgery. As for the same incisions....that I don't know. Good
luck to you. 19 months post op.

I had my gallbladder out in November. I went in at 7 am and was out by 5
pm the same day. The gallbladder is on the other side of the chest so
you'll have new incisions.

I had my gallbladder removed almost 1 year to the day from my Lap RNY. I
had surgery at 8 p.m. one night and was home by 3 p.m. the next day.

Hi, I had my Lap rny last year, 3/27/03 and then had my gallbladder out 6
months later. I went in at 7 Am and was home later that day around 5 pm.
I did get new incisions for the GB Lap surgery, something to do with scar
tissue I was told. Everything healed up beautifully and I was just glad to
have the thing finally out! (haha) Hope this helps, and Good luck to you
and God bless,

I was 1yr. out when I had my GB out. I was at the hospital at 6 am and
home before 3pm. I had 4 (1 on top of my open scar) new lap incisions next
to my 4.5 inch open scar. Good luck to you. ~SIdney~

I had my gallbladder out in November and I was in the hospital overnight. I
think it was because of my size the doc didnt think I would be up and
around as soon as I was. Since then, 2 friends have had theirs out and gone
home the same day. Personally, Im glad I stayed because you get demerol at
the hospital and only lortab at home! :)

Hi Kelly. I am almost 6 months out and have to have my gall bladder out
already. I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. I met with my WLS surgeon
on 3/23/04 for my pre-op. He explained he will have one port in my belly
button and 3 others across my abdomen above my belly button. He also
explained that I would normally be going home the same day or by the next
day but I am also having a hysterectomy the by my gyn at the same time
(well I will be asleep the whole time but they will take turns instead of
exactly at the same time) so I will be in the hospital about 2-3 days. I
have to be at the hospital at 5:30am because my surgery is scheduled for
7:30am. I am very glad it is early in the morning so I get on with my day
recovering and getting out of there in 2 days instead of 3. From what I
have read in my research on the subject, you are usually only off of work
for about a week and can go home the same day as surgery or by the next
day. Good luck to you and God bless.

I had open rny 12/02. I had my gallbladder out and a hernia repair at the
same time on 10/03. I had my surgery at 10 am and was out of the hospital
at 3 pm the same day. I had 24 staples and had no problems.
