I was 302 lbs at only 5 feet ZERO inches tall, and had successful LAP RNY on August 5th this year. I did loose 16 pounds PRIOR TO surgury. My doc, Dr. Helmuth Billy, recommended that I loose as much as possible B4 surgury so that my liver would be less fatty and less of an obstacle for the LAP Proceedure. In comparison to your height, my stomach etc was much fatter than yours can be, so if LAP can work for this old fat lady, I'm bettin it can work for YOU as well, darlin! Best wishes to you in your Journey, MaryBee

I am 5'4". I started at 282. I am at 139, with my lowest being 127. I am over 2 years out. I eat whatever I want, but I keep my head about me. Sweets, maybe twice a month, at celebrations. Carbs, not my first choice, but not completely avoided. Protien drinks, I love 'em, but I think they put weight on me at this point (but not at the first year, I totally belive in them). Excersize, I wish I could say I was regular, but I'm not. I'm a card-carrying memeber of curves, but I just don't think they push you hard enough, I leave there feeling fine, not winded, not pushed, not anything. You are done in a half an hour though. Is that worth it? I hate that I've gained 12 pounds over the last year. I'm not doing anything different. I hear it's normal though. AAARGH. I wanted to be SKINNY. (My BMI is 24, still considered normal, but high normal. I'd rather be anorexic. I know that is bad. But obviosly I can't do it.) Society is so mean. I had someone tell me the other day, after loosing 150 lbs., after being "normal" according to the BMI scales that I could "stand to loose 15 lbs." I could have blown them off, but when I'm looking at my size *'s at the store, I think, if I could just loose another 20 lbs, I would be a 4 or a 2. Is that stupid or what? It would be easy to say F*** them. But the reality is that's what we have to put up with, that's what our kids have to put up with. It's a shame. I don't know what to do about it, do you?

I started out at 5'5" and 291. I had a very uneventful sucessful Lap RNY on May 13th and have lost 88 lbs to date. I am thrilled with my loss, but on a PMS plateau right now. I am a weird one. I lose steadily all month and then when my period starts I stop losing. Once I start back on my birth control pills, my weight loss starts up again. Oh well, if I lose great for 3 weeks then I'm not gonna complain. I've recently "upped" my walking so I hope that helps too. Take care and God bless you! -Lisa/291/202/145

I had lap rny on 1/31/03, starting at 274 pounds. At six months I had lost 96 pounds and 17 more in months 6-8. Still hoping for at least another 15ish, which my doctor says I should easily exceed.

I had Lap RNY 9 months ago and I am 5'5". I started out at 286lbs and I am now down to 174lbs, so I've lost a total of 112lbs so far. Weight loss has slowed down, but I feel that I know how to eat now. Believe me, if I can do it, you can too!

I had lap RNY on 4/1/03, so I'm just a week short of six months. I weighed 290 before surgery, and am 5'5", age 44. As of this morning, I've lost 87 pounds. I eat very few refined carbs, average around 900 calories a day, and exercise at least six days a week (either at a Curves-type place, or a two-mile walk). I am diligent about my water, protein and vitamins.

I had my Lap Rny on 9/17/02 weighing in at 290 and have lost 145 lbs to date. I still do a protein shake for b-fast, lunch, protein shake for snack then dinner (protein first, then veggie then carb/starch if there's room). I'm not that great about exercising though. I had lost 100 lbs by 6 months out. Hope this helps. Robin 290/145/135

I'm I had lap RNY on 8/25/03 and I'm down 25 pounds. Everyone is different, as you can see from reading the posts on this website. Almost every post I read says don't worry the weight will come off, it takes time. So do as your doctor tells you, follow your food plan and you'll see.
