Question:
Why does it take so long to get a consultation with a surgeon?

I would guess that one reason is the huge rise in people wanting weight
loss surgery......I heard that the surgeons in my area are getting around
fourty requests for surgery per week.

They are really busy! I know my surgeon does a load of RNY's (lap) plus he
is an assistant professor and chief of endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery
in a major teaching hospital. I think he slips in some other general
surgeries, too. It was worth the wait.

It can get very frustrating! I know my surgeon performs his own surgeries,
but assists on others as well. His practice performs RNY with two surgeons,
which I think is a great idea, just in case something were to go wrong, you
have two experienced hands there. It didn't take me that long to get an
appointment with mine, a few months, b/c he had only 1 year experience. But
now his experience is over 2 years and is getting more well-known, so it
takes even longer. Some surgeons have a year waiting list! With all the
attention on this surgery in the media, the popularity is growing! Goodluck
to you!
