Question:
I feel like I'm starving!

I am one week post op, and am having an extremely hard time adjusting to the liquid diet. I've been very good about not giving in to the temptation of eating something solid (because I'm afraid of tearing my sutures), but its on my mind alot. I have yet to feel satisfied. The liquids are digested so quickly, that I never feel full. Any suggestions?    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on March 14, 2003)

I haven't been through it yet but I saw a site www.digitalhorsewoman.com and went to wls on the left and it had pouch rules for dummies which should help you, lot of luck on the losing side

The pouch rules for dummies are really for someone farther out. You will most likely not be hungry once you start on solid foods. The liquide phase is the hardest, next to the waiting!

I had a lot of head hunger at that point and wanted to chew something soooooo much!! My surgeon's post-op instructions included chewing food and then spitting it out(like pizza)if you needed to taste or chew something. I did this and was a lot calmer and more satisfied. I even know someone that licked the salt/spices off of Dorito's to give herself some flavor!! Now, there will be some who insist that this behavior will lead to bullemia. I am over 2 years post op and have no symptoms of bullemia or other eating disorders. So, it obviously didn't affect me in this way. If you need to do this to get over the liquid diet phase, I say go for it. Good luck, I know it is hard. Shelley

I found that thicker liquids helped my get that full feeling and keep it longer. Malt O'Meal, Cream of Wheat made runny but a smidge thicker than soupy with a bit of fake sweetener. Very filling. I made my own applesauce and used low-sugar apples (granny smith for example) and left it very slightly chunky. The chunks are soft enough to mush up but you get the feeling of chewing. Just some thoughts and hope you find what works for you.
