Question:
How many Dr supervised diets does Cigna require for approvall?
I am in the process of getting all information to be submitted to my insurance company(my WLS surgeon's office handles that, thank goodness) I would like to know how many supervised diets Cigna requires before they can process my claim? What is the duration of one of these diets? Help? — stephalie_2000 (posted on February 3, 2003)

I don't know what the requirements are, however, I can tell you what I told
the Bariatric Treatment Center personnel during my interview.
1. I had been taking perscribed diet pills on and off for 20 years.
2. I did go to "Physicians Weight Loss Centers" for about 6 to 9
months where I was given phen-phen.
Hope this helps!
Also Cigna actualy seems to care about it's clients. I was approved in
three weeks aftter the authorization request was submitted.

I just had surgery on 1/9/03 and I have Cigna, HMO.
My doctor's office requires that every patient has
a psy eval, note from primary care doctor and nutritional
eval done by a nutritionist before they contact ins
company for approval. I also made up a list of all the
different diets that I had been on, that I could remember.
I gave a copy to each dr. that did an evaluation on me. This
helped them to better understand my diet history. Also, Cigna
from what I understand has a 30 wait period before it approves
each request. Mine was almost exactly 30 days. I also followed
up with them myself. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any
questions or would like to see my diet history. Good luck to you!!

I have Cigna PPO and they did not require any supervised diets, I just told
them of all my diet attempts for the past 12 years, My Dr faxed in paper
work on 1-22 and on 1-24 I was approved. Hope this helps
