Question:
Hard Water
Has anyone experienced water going down really hard? If so, does it get better and when. — Mary H. (posted on October 28, 2002)

You don't mention when you had surgery. But for me (open RNY 8/6/02) I
also had alot of pain when drinking water. I could almost describe it as
pressure sitting there and then ...gloop...like a culligan water bottle, it
would go down. At 3 weeks, I decided to start using a straw and for some
reason it works better. Now I can drink about 2-3 oz at a time and no
problem. I usually drink 64-120 oz. a day. Take care, it does get better.
Your insides are still swollen and once that goes away it does get better.

When I first had my surgery I could not drink plain water at all. As you
said, it went down so hard that I just couldn't stand it. To top that off,
everytime I drank it I would feel so uncomfortable that I just couldn't get
it down. I switched to sugar-free, caffeine-free iced tea as a result and
that helped me get my water in, and yes, it does go away. I can now chug
water like I did before the surgery. Hope this helps.
