Question:
Meat and eggs make me sick--any ideas?

The egg substitute is now making me sick and meat of any kind will not stay down---I am a little over one month post op and down 33 pounds---someone told me it takes a while for your stomach to accept meat again and others say you should already be eating meat....I also tried veggie burgers etc and they make me sick too...and suggestions?    — Linda L. It took me weeks before I could stand meat and eggs. It was probably 3 months or so. I lived on yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, etc. Now I can eat meat, eggs, whatever just fine. Just give your body time....

eggs are starting to make me sick, too. I am a huge proponent of cheese!! ALot of people say to stay away from american and cheddar because they are higher in fats, ofcourse those are my favorites, though! But i basically eat some kind of cheese everyday. I am 3 months post-op and have lost over 55 pounds so far. (I was 250lbs to start) I also eat low-fat pnb on 2 saltines to limit carbs. I'll eat a small handful of peanuts. Are you able to handle dairy? I drink skim milk and eat f/f yogurt for protein, which is also added calcium. Hope this helps you some, goodluck!

I eat tuna about 4-5 times a week. Shrimp is protein source I love. If you don't like seafood this won't help. I've also eaten sunflower seeds and string cheese. If you like beans you could eat refried beans or great northern beans. Good luck!

My favorite breakfast is a protein bar. I eat it in the car on the way to work. Lately I've been eating the Balance Gold Caramel Nut Blast, it has 15 grams of protein in it. For lunch I've been having the packaged tuna (3 oz) mixed with lettuce, 1/4 cup of Kraft FF shedded chedder cheese and 1 Tblsp Light Miracle Whip. I think the tuna is 19 grams of protein, and the cheese is 9 grams of protein. For a snack I usually eat a vegatable, fruit or a lowfat string cheese. I seem to do best with chicken, tuna, turkey and fish. I really like the packaged bag tuna better than the can, it doesn't taste as fishy. I have also tried peanut butter with sugar free jam on a bagel, but be careful of the bagel you choose, some are loaded with calories. Good luck & God Bless!

If you enjoy, smoked oysters are a great source of protein. Just drain them well and pat them with a paper towel to get the oil off. Canned chicken (in the same area as tuna) is good, and if you have a food processor you might try pureed meats. I liked deviled ham until I saw how much fat there is in it.. eeeek! I didn't have an RNY so I can't really speak about how long it takes to tolerate, just wanted to offer my two bits on things to try. Good luck! ~Peace

hi there i would try cottage cheese, lowfat refried beans, chili, nuts, or low sugar and fat peanut butter. these go down fairly smooth. try shrimp or imitation crab meat these are very good protein and may go down a bit better for you. best of luck to you :)

I'm 11 wks postop and at first, I was Egg Drop Soup girl. After a while, I got tired of struggling to eat enough food to make my protein numbers and I went back to protein shakes, after thinking I couldn't find one that tasted right. What a relief! Sweet, refreshing and I don't have to count numbers once I get 2 or 3 in a day. AND I still get to have some food, too!

Many doctors don't recommend meat for several months and beef until 6 months so don't worry. Get your protein from other sorces. I was lucky, I was a fish lover and fresh poached or grilled fish is very soft, easy to digest and high in protein. Other sources are cottage cheese, reg cheese, plain not fat yogurt. If you can do beans, non-fat refried beans melted with cheese is a combination that is equal to a protein in egg. There are lots of protein foods. Have someone go to the library, or invest in a health food book or a vegetarian book, they cover diets without meat but that are healthy. hope this helps
