Question:
I have been treated for Bulimia, is this going to be a problem with getting approval?

I have been treated for Bulimia and Depression for the last 2 years, but really feel like I have a handle on both. Is the surgeon going to reject me for surgery? I was looking forward to the prospects and outcome of WLS now I am concerned that it won't become a reality. I have read that some of you say if you have or had an eating disorder then forget it? I am so discouraged by this. Is there a ray of hope out there that surgery for me could be a reality. Thanks for your input!:)    — Stacy L. (posted on July 13, 2002)

I was hospitalized for bulimia when I was a teenager (about 15 years ago) and I told my Dr. and I also submitted records of the impatient treatment to my insurance co. My bulimia was binging and extreme dieting. I attached a letter along with this info to the insurance company explaining my story and nobody ever even questioned it and I was approved. I thought it was pretty valuable information for my case and my Dr.'s insurance coordinator seemed to as well. Best of luck and feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. :-)

Hi Stacy, please work with your medical doctor and psychologist to determine if WLS is the right choice for you. You're smart to ask these questions now. It may be that you'll have to do some extra work to prepare for surgery and then have follow-up visits post-op. Best of luck to you, Diane Norcross http://www.WeightlossSurgery.ws
