Question:
Has anyone been approved through HealthPlus of Michigan?
I called and HP told me I have an exclusionary policy that does not cover any WL meds or WLS. I thought it was specific to my policy, but from all the posting here I am going to investigate further. I really want to have WLS, and my Dr will approve, I just dont want to wait 6 months before I can change my insurance.<P> Thanks, Danielle — Danielle C. (posted on June 28, 2002)

I know how you feel dealing with HealthPlus..it is nothing but a major
headache (and then you still have to buy your own aspirin). I have been
fighting with them too about WLS and nothing short of taking them to court
for weight discrimination will get you approved for surgery. Even though
now 6 months seems like a long wait, it really isn't. I personally would
just wait it out and jump on the new insurance the second you are allowed
to switch. Since your doctor is already supportive and will help you get
approved, that is pretty much all you need. Just continue to document your
WLS struggle and possibly get a psych eval just in case your new insurance
requires one. Then everything will be set to start your next phase of life
- hopefully as a postop. =)
