Question:
How long does it take for Medi-cal approval?

My doctor submitted my paperwork to Medi-cal about two weeks ago, and I wanted to know what is the average waiting time for approval? Thank you.    — Tina L. (posted on June 19, 2002)

That depends on your insurance plan. I have Cigna EPP (HMO) and it took from January through May to get my approval with one denial. Cigna insisted I completed a 12 week physician supervised diet before they reversed their first denial.

oh, im so glad someone asked this question. whew, ive been waiting to tell someone. i have medi-cal blue cross. the referral to see the surgeon took overnight to be approved. i saw the surgeon on may 23. they didnt submit the referral til may 28th(there was a holiday in there) and i called blue cross i think on june 3rd to see if they had at least received the referral and they said i was already approved for surgery. so mines scheduled for july 23rd. two months start to finish. hope this helps. oh, and the surgeons office did say, they hardly ever have a problem with medi-cal BLUE CROSS.
