Question:
Has anyone tried low fat sugarfree peanut butter? Where can you buy it?

I'm about 2wks a little more out from open rny and looking for other sources of protein. I am having the darnest luck finding this product. I found one at a health food store but it is 15grams of fat 6grams carbs 9grams protein and 200cals per 2tablespoons.Not exactly what the doctor ordered huh. Tired of eggs cottage cheese chicken etc looking for something different. If anybody out there has any ideas I am all ears. Thanx Dana Lewis    — Dana L. (posted on May 8, 2002)

I had the same problem with the protein. I am finally over the pureed stage. Just starting my 5th week post-op. When I was a couple weeks post-op I bought JIF Reduced Fat Peanut Butter (creamy of course).I tried to have a little each day on a saltine cracker. I chewed it until the cracker was mush before I swallowed. And I took very tiny bites too. Hopes this helps. I had a very hard time with protein because I got sick of yogurt and I hate cottage cheese and just couldn't tolerate the pureed meat but I managed thru it and you will too. Good luck

Hi there! Both Skippy and Jiff make a low/no sugar pb... They taste pretty good. They can be found at the regular grocery store. It is much cheaper than going to a health food store! Good luck! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii).........

Okay....My daddy taught me this little trick...take pernut butter and mix with pancake syrup. It makes it smoth and sweet. Now I use SF syrup but it is still good!.

Hi, just a little info. about the lowfat peanut butter... they are significantly higher in sugars and carbs, but only a few grams lower in fat and the same amount of calories. I was eating it for a while until I realized it was probably worse in the long run as the sugars and carbs would get stored as fat anyway. I love peanut butter and have switched back to regular. Also, I use Almond butter, which I get at the health food store. It has almost the same calories and fat, except that Almonds have the polyunsaturated fat which is better for you,( or something like that) so I try to eat that a couple of times per week instead of my peanut butter. Either way I eat one or the other almost every day, and I am 6 pounds below goal at almost a year post op, so eat some and enjoy!! best of luck...

I am about 17 months out and use regular pb but the all natural sugar free kind. Two weeks out seems very early for peanut butter. Don't worry about the fat so much as the sugar. The low fat versions have too much sugar. You will not e able to eat much of it anyway.

On my first day home I was allowed peanut butter, so if its ok'ed by your doctor, then its ok. I used the Smuckers brand Natural Peanut Butter. It has no sugar and the natural oils which are much better for you than the hydrogenated oils found in regular PB. I don't know why, but they extract the healthy oil then replace it with artery clogging oils, 2 different kinds. With the Natural, the oil separates to the top and you stir it in before eating. I found it at Walmart. If you want to use the regular, its really not that bad given the tiny amount that you would be eating anyway. Its a personal choice. Enjoy!

You can make your own-nothing added except Peanuts. Take peanuts and use a blender(hand blender works best)and just blend the heck out of it. You can add a little water to thin it out but I don't.
