Question:
Is there any other postie's who have a yeast infection after surgery?

I woke up this morning with a yeast infection. Will I be able to take Diflucan for it?    — Tina L. (posted on April 22, 2002)

Funny you asked. I just got over a yeast infection. Don't know why I got one and was wondering if it was any way related to WLS. I have had only 2 in my life time and it was when I was on an antibiotic. I have no idea why this one happened. The diflucan should be fine, just confirm it with your doc though.

I am 4 1/2 months post-op and have had several yeast infections (external) under my apron. The las one was really bad and my surgeon prescribed Diflucan. I've never taken it before so I don't know what the recommended dosage is normally, but he gave me a 5 day supply. I would call your surgeon, though.

I've used diflucan several times post op. I have found though I have to take 2 instead of just one normally to clear up the infection. And for a while post-op the dr had me on it daily to make sure i did't develope one under the apron. Good luck :)

Yeast infections are very common post antibiotics. The meds mess with the "flora & fauna" in your system, which allows the ever present yeast to thrive. I had thrush and was given Diflucan with no ill effects. Fay

A yeast infection was my only post op complication. I got it a few days after I got home. My ob/gyn, never having had a patient who had gastric bypass was not comfortable with giving me diflucan and ordered me a cream. I didn't care because I was pretty dang miserable from the yeast infection at that point anyway. I wasn't comfortable with taking the diflucan only a few days post op myself...so...that's my story! Good luck.

YES! Not only a vaginal yeast infection, but Thrush on my tongue as well. It was the antibiotics I had to take the first week home from surgery. I used an OTC product vaginaly and my surgeon gave me drops for my tongue. There is still some on my tongue at 6 weeks out! Hopefully it will all go away really soon. Hope this helped. Good Luck!

Yep, I have only ecver had one other yeast infection in my life, but those massive doses of antibiotics will do it. I had my yeast infection only on the skin...under my breasts and under the apron. I used an anti-yeast cream on the skin followed my A&D ointment to clear it. Just what we need to deal with, huh? Hang in there!
