Question:
I have terrible dark circles under my eyes still that are so bad I
can't even cover them with make up. What can I do to get rid of them and what is causing them to still be there. I'm 11 weeks post op and down 47#. Thanks — Tammy D. (posted on April 18, 2002)

Any chance you are anemic? Sometimes Oxygen depletion
can cause this... since the hemoglobin is the oxygen
carrying part of the red blood cell, it could be
some reduction in circulating hgb that is
causing the dark circles?
Just a thought.
circles. Just a thought.

I'm naturally thinking nutritionally, so althought you could have medical
issues, I'm only asking in this line of thinking. How many g of protein
supp are you taking? What kind? HOw much of what kind of iron? Are you
taking a pair of multi-vites? Are you getting plenty of water? Is your
sleep apnea or diabetes or other comorbs under control and being checked?

Mary Kay makes a cream called Dark Circle Diminisher- I used to be a
consultant and I use it now- dark circles are hereditary for me. Find a
local Mary Kary Consultant or order off their website. It's good stuff but
you have to use it every day- it has vitamin K in it.

My 11 year old daugher has dark circles ( not bad ones) but her pediertian
called them shinners. He says its from allergies?? I always thought it was
from lack of water and bein constipation. Just my two bits....

I looked up "dark circles under the eyes" on one of my favorite
websites. This was the response:
Too much sodium, stress, fatigue, allergies, heavy eye creams, fluid
retention, and alcohol all contribute to the problem.

Hi Tammy: Thanks for asking this question as I've been wishing I could get
rid of my dark circles also. I really started noticing them around the
time I turned 30. Prior to that they only showed up when I was very tired
or during my period. So the stress, anemia probably are factors. I hoped
when I quit smoking that would take care of it but it didn't. Then when I
lost weight I had hoped they'd go away too. For a while I was taking
additional iron and it wasn't really helping the circles. I had to quit
the iron because of constipation, so maybe if I could have continued it
would have eventually helped? I'm 11 months post op open RNY, so I don't
think time will help you. If you get an answer that helps you please email
and let me know ok? If nothing else at least we'll be thin with dark
circles. :o) Good luck to you. Sher

This is not intended as spam, but rather to help someone with a problem.
Avon has a product that works great on undereye circles. It's called
Lighten Up Undereye Treatment. You can get it from any independent
representative. If you can't find one, e me.

I was told my a very helpful aesthetician on this site to try Advanced
ResKue eye lightening gel and it seems to be working for me. I lost a lot
of fat in my face and it made my eyes seem darker and more sunken. I'm
hoping that the fat will redistribute when my weight stabalizes and I won't
have this problem anymore! The gel does seem to lighten the dark circles,
though. It uses vitamin K.
