Question:
I just checked out this website, zoneperfect.com and they have some protein products

I have tried the bars, they are great. You can get then at GNC, Vitamin World, Walmart, Target. They are $1.17 at Walmart. Have between 14-16 g of protein, 200 cals. THey have tons of flavors, check the website. A few i remember are chocolate mint, strawberry yogurt, and fudge graham. They are all crunchy like a nutty bar. YUM. THe website if offering a deal on a 14 pack variety pack for 13.99, and boxes of 12 strawberry fruit crunch bars for 8.94. They also have these snack chips I'm going to try, you get 6 bags for $5.94. A bag has 180 cals and 14 g of protein. They have spicy pizza, nacho cheese, and lemon garlic. I'm going to try them!!! : )    — Melissa B. (posted on March 4, 2002)

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but if they have 200 calories for 16 grams of protein there's quite a bit of either fat and/or carbs in them. Protein and carbs each have 4 calories per gram and fat has 9. So if there are 16 grams of protein, that's 64 calories out of 200 in a bar. What are the other 136 calories?

Unfortunately, protein that is eaten is not processed by gastric bypass patients in the same way as normies.. SO, if the bars, chips, etc contain x gms of protein, you will be fortunate to absorb 1/3 of that amount of protein.. All RNY patients malabsorb and need to get their protein via supplements.. predigested whey protein is the best source.. I was a proximal RNY and became protein deficient due to not being able to take in nutrients in any form for an extended time.. please dont let this happen to you.. Protein deficiency is very ugly.. Take your vitamins, minerals, and drink those shakes!

There are 7 g of fat and 22 g of carb, 13 of them sugar. I can tolerate sugar fine. I listen to my doctor, and he doesn't want me relying on protein shakes. Everyone needs to listen to their own surgeon's instructions. I was trying to be helpful for those people who were interested. Thank you.
