Question:
I'am almost 5 weeks post-op and still very weak. Is this normal or does it have some
thing to do with my spleen being removed. I feel I am getting enough protein, just no strength back yet. I also had pancreatitis and my doctor removed my spleen. I had to be put back into the hospital one week after discharge because of the pancreatitis. — Tammy D. (posted on March 1, 2002)

Hi Tammy,
I can't say for sure, but I think what you're going thorugh is perfectly
expectable after all you've been through. I had a really hard time getting
my energy back (I had never felt so depleted in my life!) and I just had
the surgery (RNY open) and not anything else. Keep eating your protein,
drinking your water and try to be patient. You have a lot to heal from and
a lot for your body to adjust to. Eventually, you'll feel better. Give it
time. Good luck - Nancy

Dear Tammy, I had my RNY in July and like you I had absoultely no energy.
I kept wondering if I would ever feel normal again. Right about 6 weeks my
energy started coming back and within no time I had more energy than ever.
Don't get discouraged, your body has been through a lot.

I had the DS surgery and had my gallbladder and apendix out at the same
time. It took me at 6 weeks but closer to 8 weeks before I could even stay
awake all day. I was so tired all the time. I think what you are going
through is perfectly normal. Just know that it will get better.

Hi Tammy..I can feel for you.I had surgery just about 8 weeks ago. LAP
RNY.I lost alot of blood and had to be taken back into surgery the next day
for some exploration. The bleeding stopped on it's own, but I came home
anemic. My blood count is back up to normal, but I can tell you I am still
very tired. Not everyone is the same, and your body is healing. Give it time
and rest as much as you can.You not only had RNY surgery but you also had
your spleen removed. You have gone through so much. I talked to alot of
post ops about my tiredness and some told me they did not feel good until
around 3 months. So I just take it one day at a time and go with the flow.
Some days even a shower is exhausting.I wish you the best..Email me if you
have any questions..God Bless:))))
