Question:
Does tea hot or cold dehydrate you as coffee?
I like drinking Hot tea — Dawn S. (posted on December 28, 2001)

This is just strictly my opinion, and I have nothing to back it up, but
since tea does not have as much caffeine as coffee, I don't think it is as
dehydrating. It still has caffeine though, so make sure you drink extra
water to make up for that fact. :o)

Being from Ireland, I am an avid tea drinker, but for the first 2 weeks
after surgery my doctor had me on Caffeine free tea, but after that he said
as long as I get my 64oz. of water I can have regular tea. I.E. Don't count
the tea into your daily liquid goal, or any caffeinated beverage for that
matter. Those were my instructions! Good Luck!

My nutritionist suggested a complete switch-over to decaf tea or coffee.
Not only did she say you can't count caffeinated beverages toward your
daily liquid totals, but you have to drink an extra cup and a half of
liquid just to counterbalance it. So, say, if you had a cup of regular tea,
you would have to drink 64 oz. of water (or decaf) plus an extra cup and a
half of water.

I dispise decaffeinated coffee but enjoy many of the caffeine free teas.
There is such a huge selection to choose from. But some teas actually
contain MORE caffeine than coffee, so be aware of that when choosing one. I
have heard the same advice that the others posted about...don't count
caffeinated drinks in your fluid count and compromise by drinking extra
water. I still have to have my morning cup of coffee every day, but I find
it tastes off and I'm not enjoying it like I always did before. I think I
may just switch to decaf tea. I love the herbal stuff. I am 18 days post
op/open rny. Good Luck.

Hi There! I drink about 8 cups of hot tea a day. I drink half tea and
half 1% milk. I make my tea sort of weak. I get my water in that way and
get ALOT of protein from the milk. This is my comfort all of the
time...especially when nothing else sits on my stomach well.....4 1/2
months post and down 106#.......
