Your not the only one. I will be 21 in a few weeks and I want to have this surgery. Unfortunately, due to lack of insurance and money, I don't think it will be possible. If you feel like talking, go ahead and email me.

Hey sistah! You are not alone in this one! I am 22 and I had open RNY 5 weeks ago. It has been something that I don't think I will ever regret. I have lots of support from my family and friends. I started out at 5-4 and 297 lbs. I am now down 29 lbs as of 2 weeks ago. Keep the faith and keep me posted on your journey. Aloha!

I believe you have a lot of courage to consider making a decision that will better your quality of life. I'm 27 and have looked into the surgery. I kept putting it off. I now have a consultation scheduled for 8/4 and pray I'll be accepted. I only wish I had the courage you do at your age. I could have started my new life by now. I'm 5'3" and 230lbs. Would love to chat if you're interested.

I am 23 and weigh 240. My surgery is set for August 14th and I have no hesitations about doing this. If you have researched this and feel it is for you, don't let age stand in your way. Go for it. The young people are out there and I would love to email with those my age and going through similar experiences.

Hi, I am 23! I noticed you've received alot of posts from people our age, but everyone is either newly postops or preops, so I just thought I'd add my little bit of info. I had open rny on June 30, 2000, and I am now 13 months postop. I have lost 151 pounds, going from 329 down to 178. Wow, what a difference a year makes! I feel sooo much better, you can not even imagine! I have energy all the time, and there's not much I won't do. I have been to an amusement park, a water park, out on the lake, and I even wore some sexy little knee boots, all of which I never would have never done at 329 pounds! I still hope to lose about 30 more pounds, but I try not to stress too much and just enjoy my new life. If anyone would like to talk, just email me, [email protected].

Hi! First you are not alone!! I am 24 and I had the same questions before surgery. Being young definitely works in our favor in terms of recovery. I was in the hospital only 2 days!!! All of my doctor's patients were my parent's age or older, so they didn't know what to do with me! I would also love to chat with other young people who have had this surgery. My 20-year old sister is now considering having the surgery. My email is [email protected]

Hi there! I think I am the only guy on here that posted but I am 23 and will be having surgery in October. It took me a year to be sure this was something that I wanted to do. I can assure you I am ready for it. I am here to chat when ever you need. Good luck to you from the young ones in Arizona!

I'm 21 in CT and have my date of 1/8/02! It is comforting to know that there are other young people out there making the decision not to let our weight rule our entire lives! My father had the surgery in October (down 70 pounds!) and is doing remarkably well. If he can do it with all his co-morbidities (diabetes, heart failure, sleep apnea, etc, etc...), I know I can do it. I am young, and healthy (except being 140 pounds too heavy) and ready to make this committment to my future! If anyone wants to chat, feel free to email me, [email protected].

Hi, I'm 20 and will hopefully be having Lab DS with Dr. Jossart in May (shortly after my 21st b-day... kind of sucks when you have to abstain from alcohol for a year, lol). I have 1 more post-op test in 2 days, then I can make my surgery date and submit papers to insurance. Scary as heck, but I know I won't last another 20 years if I don't get this done. Good luck to you!

Hello there, I'm currently 16 yrs old, and have a schedule for February the 3, 2002, very excited. Oh, and don't feel bad about being the only 20 yr old having it. It's worst when you realize your one in a million of the 16 yr olds getting this surgery. Heck, people think Im tooooo young to get it. And the people at my school never EVEN HEARD about it. So, hey, I'm all alone.
