Question:
Abdominoplasty not covered? Can I get panniculectomy covered?

I am 10 months post op and have lost 120 pounds. I am within 15 pounds of my goal weight and have United HealthCare insurance. There is a written exclusion for abdominoplasty and I was wondering if there was a chance I could get them to cover a panniculectomy. Does anyone know if there is a chance I can get that covered? My WLS surgeon said he could do a tummy tuck at the same time as a hernia repair. His office staff said it would be about $5,000 above what the insurance would pay (this includes the extra hospital costs). I also need a breast lift done to put them back where nature intended. I'm wondering if they can be done at the same time and if I should just go ahead and consult with a plastic surgeon. Any advise would be appreciated.    — georgiacarol (posted on July 14, 2001)
