Question:
Does ever state have their own insurance commissioner?
I have been denied twice by my insurance company and I would like to find out if my state has a commissoner I can turn to. — Carlene B. (posted on June 11, 2000)

Well, I am not sure what state you are from. I am from MI and we have a
State HMO Task Force who reports to the Director. In my insurance policy
book it tells how to appeal to them if I have exhausted all of my appeals
to the insurance company. I ended up hiring Walter Lindstrom during my
appeal process with the insurance company, an attorney from CA who
specializes in getting approvals for this surgery. He came with me to
appeal before the HMO Task Force and WE WON! Anyway, to make this long
story short. I would look through my insurance booklet and see what it
says about the appeal process. You could also contact www.obesitylaw.com
and see if they have any suggestions in regards to your state. Hope this
helps a little. My prayers are with you. Remember it is worth the fight!
Don't give up no matter what!

yes, each state does have a Insurance Commissioner. MY advice to you would
be to definatly contact that office. Anthem BC/BS denied me 2 ties as well.
I sought out the help of my states (KY) commissioner and within 2 weeks I
had an approval. And surgery is set for July 7th.Deffinatly try this before
seeking out any legal help, Insurance commissioner is FREE.
