Question:
Has anyone gone three weeks without a weight loss
I am 4.5 months post op Ryn. I have lost about 65lbs so far, but the last three weeks Ihave had no weight loss. Has anyone else had this happen. Will I start to lose agan? Any suggestions to get my weight to start drpping again? — Candy I. (posted on April 12, 2000)

I had a three week plateu just a month after the surgery.
I have been on a plateau now nearly 6 weeks.
I am just 5 months post op. Losing just 52 lbs. since surgery plus 12
pounds before surgery (64 lbs. total). The surgeon wants to tell me that I
ONLY had 100 lbs. to lose, so the process would appear slower than someone
who has comparatively 200 or more to lose.
It gets very discouraging does it not?

Candy, this is very normal. Do not get frusterated!!! Keep walking and
drinking lots of water you will awake one day to notice additional pounds
gone again. My advice and anyone that knows me or attends my support
groups is to get rid of the scale all together. It just adds extra grief
to you just like in this situation. Have one scale that you would weigh in
monthly at. The gym, a support group, a doctor's office but only do it
once a month. Having lost 15# in a month compared to a pound here and
there is a much bigger surprise. Also it gives you the chance to judge
your weightloss by your clothes. One day the jeans fit comfy the next they
are falling off. The scale will never do anything but bring you down.

Sounds like you are on a plateau. I just got off mine last month.
For the month of Feb I was lucky to loose 4 pounds. Then last
month I lost 10 lbs.
I watched very closely what I ate. I stopped snacking, and ate only
3X a day. I made sure to get my vitamins, water and protein. Then
I did fun activities so that I was exercising (ie roller skating). It
seemed to help get the weight loss going again.
I wish you good success.

HI! On the message board today - Carin Sutton told about how her doctor
said to think of your weight loss in terms of percentages! She had lost
25% of her weight in 8 weeks. I have lost 25% of mine in 6 weeks. Both of
us were feeling discouraged about slow loss - but so much depends on the
amount of weight you need to lose. I also love the answers about getting
rid of the scale and only weighing monthly now. I think I will drive to my
doctor's office today and use his scale and then go monthly after that. My
scale at home has been driving me crazy! I am going to post a question
about percentage of weight loss.... watch for that! Hope this brings you
smiles! Love,

Candy,I have not had my surgery yet,but I know from past experience that
the scales can be your biggest enemy. I used to weigh before I wen to the
bathroom, after I went, before I took my clothes off to shower, after I
took them off, after I got out of the shower and anytime in between. I was
playing all kinds of games with my mind. Soooo, I gave my scales away.I now
only get weighed at the doctor's office. My cardiologist told me not to buy
any scales, just to come by his office to weigh after my surgery. I have
not decied if I will weigh by-weekly or monthly. But it will not be
everyday and not every week. I have "hung up" on a number before
but as long as you don't start gaining, the pounds will fall off one day.
God luck and keep up the good work. I know my day will come and I will be
crying for help too.

Oh yes! I have, twice. Once at 4 weeks and again at 8 weeks. This is
just your body "catching up" with it's self. When you lose
weight, you are losing all kinds of things, not just fat. You are losing
hormones, liquids of all kinds, vitamins & minerals and tons more.
Your body just needs time to catch up. You absolutely will begin to lose
again. During these times, I pay real close attention to my exercise, what
I eat and when I eat. I try not to eat anything after 6pm and drink lots
of water. If I stop eating at 6 and drink another 32oz. mug of water, I
feel great in the morning....This will pass...I promise! Take care....

Hey Candy:
YES, YES, YES-- I have gone about 6 weeks without losing and then suddenly
lost 5 lbs. I am at 6 1/2 months and the weight loss has slowed down
considerably. I think the post below about percentages is a great way to
look at it. I have lost 75% of my weight in 6 1/2 months!!! That is not
too bad!! All the advice you got below is great, I just wanted you to know
you are not alone. Good luck!!

Many times, Candy. Many, many times. My first plateau occured at about 3
weeks post-op. I've been having them ever since. They do end! Drink some
extra water, walk a little more, and try and work in a little more protein.
Good luck!

Hi.
My loss has slowed to almost a stop at 4 mos. out also. Drink your water -
exercise! Those are the best tips I have. I was stuck for two weeks, then
lost 1 1/2 lbs. Not the 7 - 10 lbs losses I am used to. Just remember two
things are happening - your body is catching up and if you are using
weights you might be building muscle. These are both good things - if your
clothes continue to get loose you are doing fine and the next drop will
happen soon.
