Question:
How long can I expect gas and swelling to last.

I had surgery Dec1 I have had so much gas on my stomach and wonder when this will if ever let up. Also I have swelling of the legs and feet. Has anyone else had this and how long can I expect this to last.    — Candy I. (posted on December 6, 1999)

I don't know about the swelling, but after my surgery (9/20/99)I also had alot of gas in my stomach. I tried simethicone drops, which helped a little, I also tried laying down with my head raised and put a heating pad on my tummy. But, mainly it just went away on its own after a while. The first two weeks were the worst, and by one month the problem was mostly gone. Good luck!

My calves and ankles swelled after my surgery so I went and bought a pair of elastic stocking and I wore them 3 days and the swelling disappeared. I think walking may help also. My gas lasted almost 2 weeks.

Thank you for asking this question!! I have been very gassy for the past few days and it was making me nervous! I am 5 days post op and water seems to make me gassy as well, any suggestions?
